One minor criticism if i may. i found it distracting somewhat when the 3rd person narrator referred to the kid in a derogatory manner, the same why Kyle does. i may be wrong, but the narrator shouldn't be showing such obvious bias. Excellent story, i want to read more. thank you for the story. (9/10)

Nicely done. You took a well worn theme and turned it into something well worth the read. I'm assigning you a well deserved "9" and herein hope to encourage you to write on. Not so much for what's to come of the story, but to hear you're telling of it.
