- Thanks, torrid_girl. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I have another story featuring the narrator from this tale on the stocks and aim to post it in a while.

Bravo Mr. Clegg , Mr. Holmes and Mr. Dickens would feel right at home here. I'll not rush it and shall pause at the end of Chapter nine for a while. The only criticism is that some of the punctuation has turned in to little squares that really break the smoothness of the flow of words. Not your fault though, thanks for a good story. (10/10)

- Well thanks for that - I'm glad your enjoying Nicola's progresss. There's more to come and I think I may have solved the black square problem for future postings...

I've been missing stories with nothing but expressive, to the point sentences weaving crisp paragraphs devoid of clutter but oh-so telling. Lots of writings take umpteen paragraphs to say exactly zilch; while Freddie here paints complete pictures with neatly structred phrases... Stories like "The Adjustment Of Nicola James" are a pleasure to read -not only for the pleasure, but evenso for the reading... JJ (10/10)

- Jimmy, thanks for this - glad you're enjoying it. This was a definite experiment with a different theme and it sounds like it's working for you at least....
There's more to come and I'm working on a sequel for our hero(?).

An excellent start although it sounds very much like the old victorian world, Delightfully believeable. (9/10)
