Oh shab you got some good ones and you got some bad ones, this one belongs in the former category. Good job. Only you can mix getting me hot and making me think about culture at the same time. (10/10)

Another remarkably well written story by this author. The historical and cultural knowledge and varied contexts--often colonial or post-colonial settings, always add elements of interest and intrigue. In this case, 1938 India. As with many of the author's other stories, class, race and gender relations are also sexually at play in the story, yet organically so, and not in any conspicuously intellectual way... Rather, as the sordid, degraded sexually exploitative underside of colonial political oppression, resistance and struggle. Usha struggles to maintain her dignity and integrity, but is thoroughly broken, shamed, humiliated and degraded.. and ultimately helplessly aroused by her use and abuse. Psychologically insightful on both sides of the sadomasochistic sex, and for the female as well as male characters. Concise, intense, with the author's trademark terse, abrupt, ironic journalistic wrap-up that leaves the reader satiated yet eager for more. What really stands out about this story is that, while it stands on another, higher level than over 90% of the stories submitted to this site (or anywhere online, really), it is "just" standard stuff for this author, whose stories are consistently of such a high standard on so many levels, and so incredibly arousing, at least for me, that the superlatives in reviewing them get redundant. As a veteran reader of such stories for many years, I highly recommend all of this author's stories. (10/10)
