    | | Liked the story. Not completely, but who does, in the end. Like a story completely, I mean. Names were great also. As a Flemish guy, I can assure folk that Alaerd vande Vync is an existing name. Ravenguide reminded me of an area in Ostend, where once stood a castle called Raverside. I would have changed de Virgin for 'de la Pucelle', though, which I find a giddy name. Story itself wasn't giddy mind. Well written, yes. But not giddy.
In fact, I cringed when Jehanne's eardrums got pierced. Ouch...
Some sentences were oddly structured. Or had oddities in them. Like athletic features matching physical beauty. Sounds good but is meaningless.
Still, I liked the style. A bit extravagant. Frivolous. Flamboyant even, thanks to some of the characters. Matches the spirit of the times, I guess.
I liked the ending too. In true Douglas Fairbanks Jr. style. Errol Flynn. Swashbuckling landrats.
 Fanfan La Tulippe. Vidoq. Nice.
 JJ (9/10)

    | | Pretty good. I think the medival setting could be used a lot more often then it is, but I don't care for the whole "girl is rescued in the end" thing. It'd be nice if there was a second part where she tried to get revenge and ended up in something even more heinous. (7/10)

(Edit) (Aug 9, 2007)Dear bmtphoenix,Thank you for your well-considered thoughts, not to mention, your fine Review.
As for the "girl is rescued in the end" thing all I can say is cliches, of one form or another are pretty commonplace - that's not an excuse, just an observation that there are more than one way to skin a whatever.
