This is a difficult story to rate. The technical aspects (spelling, punctuation, grammar) are very good. The author also wants a 'real' story, rather than just a stroke piece, and therein lies the problem. His backstory is quite long, disjointed (though this is not fatal, and he does clearly mark where the settings jump) and seems to relate to some parallel universe where things don't work the way they do here. Some examples: The history teacher is new on the job, yet no one dares to cross him, even letting him get away with rape in his classroom. Also, he teaches whatever he wishes. In real life teachers have a curriculum they must follow. The protagonist apparantly loses his house because his neighborhood was rezoned. When rezoning occurs, existing structures get grandfathered in and are unaffected. (Perhaps he meant that the house ws seized under emminent domain?) There's an Oriental woman with alabaster skin. Alabaster is very, very white. There is an A-list actress who no studio will hire because of her ex-husband's influence. The whole idea of being A-list is that people are beating down your door; there would always be two or three of the smaller studios and independants who wouldn't give a darn about influence. They'd just low-ball her salary and count their winnings. And just to be picky, it is NOT true that al men get turned on by watching a woman light a cigarette. Instant turn-off. My final note is that there isn't much sex here, and what there is is more talked about than described. That's a matter of preference, of course, and the author may not be comfortable writing sex scenes. (I wasn't for quite awhile.) Put it all together, and I found a story that was technically good, but too annoying with all its little anomylies. Sorry. (6/10)
