I'm not one that is keen on first-person perspectives, especially when that person is a nasty piece of work. But in "Hire", I think the approach used by Wiley Hunter, to tell the tale from the pov of the rapist recollecting the events that led to what's been done, is simply sublime, because the story is so well written. As I said, because I'm not an amateur of such stories, I was slightly amazed that I got sucked into the story the way I did, following in the footsteps of the hired hand, reading his thoughts, learning his actions, sensing the indifference about what's to be done, what he's doing. It's just a job. One that's fun doing. Great read. JJ (10/10)
