Very nicely done. Reminds me ... at least the part of being caught ... of the woman at MIT who was caught using fake credentials. It may have taken MIT 26 years to find out, but I bet she didn't end up humping a pole! (8/10)

A nicely crafted, compact work that flowed smoothly, was very descriptive and free of the gaffes associated with the efforts of less talented writers. I would have imagined that for such a high profile academic postion, the background check would have come up with at least a few photographs of the candidate and not require that the dean himself become involved, but that's just me talking. Unfortunately the ending was telegraphed, and Mr.Soong was about as transparent as a plate glass window to this reader. Alas, nothing in this world is perfect, so I still would recommend this effort highly for all the good things it contains. (8/10)

I liked the begining very much, especially the way the blackmail was set up. Often, blackmail stories lack in realism because the threat of exposure is too small compared to the "payment" demanded of the victim. C. Lakewood solved this problem very neatly. He uses great descriptions and powerful internal dialogue (although the little sentences in brackets are annoying at times).
However, I noticed two relevant flaws in the story, namely the change of scene when Barbie starts working in a strip club. She is no longer under direct supervision from her blackmailer and could conceivably make a living elsewhere. The second is the blackmailer's motivation. He doesn't seem to get anything out of the whole thing except revenge. Someone in a position as good as his (and retirement with lots of time on his hands ahead of him), should be aiming higher.
This story has ups and downs but you should keep in mind that the ups are mountains of literary quality while the downs are just the regular slips you find in any writers work. (8/10)
