Joshua and Sandra

Chapter 1

				  Joshua and Sandra: A Romance

Chapter One:

It started with Friedrich Nietzsche, that most perverse and disreputable of
philosophers.

More precisely, the course of events which were soon to unfold, picked up
an irresistible momentum with Sandra Jansen's lecture on the philosopher, to her
Philosophy 110 class.

Joshua Washington sat in the front row of the class.

On the first day of class he had taken a seat in the back of the room.
Once he saw what the instructor looked like, he made sure to be in the front row
ever since.

Sandra Jansen was blonde. Her short curly hair closely helmeted her head.
She had a body which was both petite and athletic looking at the same time. Her
breasts weren't especially large, but they still turned him on. They were
widely separated, and seemed to point downwards slightly. Sometimes Joshua saw,
or maybe only imagined, her nipples poking through her bra and whatever top she
had on.

She was pretty. Oh, man, Joshua had thought, she's beautiful. Delicate
features, straight nose, with a slightly rounded and upturned tip. She had
distinct cheekbones, which seemed to set off her green eyes.

After seeing her, he assumed she would probably be a disappointment as an
instructor. He somehow doubted that she could be capable as well as beautiful.
However, she was special that way, also.

She knew the subject matter. She was enthusiastic, and she was able to
communicate that enthusiasm to her students. She felt that the ideas of the
philosophers they were discussing really mattered, that those ideas had
relevance to real life. In addition, she sought out student input. Her
lectures often became stimulating dialogues and debates. Today she was
lecturing on a philosopher that figured to capture the students' interest.

"...so, we come to the heart of Nietzsche's philosophy, when we examine
his hostility to Christianity. He regarded Christianity as constituting what he
called a 'slave mentality.' What he basically meant by this is that
Christianity developed as a religion for people who were afraid of truly
superior humans. So these weaklings would preach forgiveness, submission to
fate and to the will of God. They hoped - and prayed! (class laughter) - that
men superior to themselves in strength and courage would adhere to this same
belief in humility and meekness. This man who is superior to his fellows,
Nietzsche referred to as his infamous Superman. Maybe the best way to describe
what Nietzsche meant by the Superman, is that he's a man who feels no obligation
to obey the moral rules of society. He can, and will do whatever he chooses.
And, according to Nietzsche, he's right to do so! Yes, Mr. Burns," she said as
a student raised his hand.

"With all due respect, and I know this guy's supposed to be an important
philosopher, that's crazy! If nobody obeyed the rules of society, we would have
anarchy."

Ms. Jansen laughed. "That's a common rebuttal to Nietzsche. But what he
would have argued back, is that people with slave mentalities will always end up
obeying and honoring someone stronger than them. Most people are weak, and will
always actually desire and need someone stronger to rule them. Nietzsche would
argue that that someone should be a person of vision and courage and
independence, rather than, say a Jerry Falwell." There was more laughter from
the students.

Joshua listened to her and watched her, fascinated. She always had an
intelligent and to-the-point response to anything the students said. She was
only a few years older than her students, but was light years ahead of them
intellectually. But fuck the intellectual thing, Joshua thought to himself. He
couldn't keep his eyes off her. He watched every movement, caught the swell of
her breasts as she would take a deep breath. He didn't miss the movement of her
ass cheeks in tight jeans, when she would turn to the blackboard to write
something. He undressed her with his eyes, trying to imagine what her body
would look like without clothes.

Joshua had never had a particular "thing" for white women, having lived all
his life in the local inner city ghetto, and never having much interaction with
whites, male or female. His one sexual encounter with a white woman had been
with a flabby middle aged whore. She had lived within a poor white part of
town, bordering the black ghetto. He had achieved orgasm only after strenuous
efforts on her part. The cheap portrait of Jesus, which hung over the head of
her bed, had looked down in pious disapproval.

Looking at Ms. Jansen, however, Joshua knew he wouldn't have had any such
problems with her. His attention suddenly returned to the discussion, as he
caught the tenor of another student question.

"...do you think about his views about morality?"

"I don't like to give my own views about something like this, Ms. Sanders.
My function is to convey the views of these philosophers, and leave it to all of
you to develop your own response."

     Joshua raised his hand.

     "Yes, Mr. Washington?"

"Let me get this straight. According to Nietzsche, there's nothing that is
really prohibited? Murder, rape, robbery, genocide, whatever?" He leaned
forward, and waited intently for her response.

"That's exactly what he would have had to concede, if he had been asked
that question. In fact, there was an infamous murder case back in the twenties,
or thirties, I think. Two college students, as it so happened (heavy emphasis
in her voice, laughter from the class), who had been studying Nietzsche, decided
they were free to violate the rules of society. They kidnapped a young boy, and
raped and murdered him." She shrugged. "There was nothing "wrong" with this,
if you accept Nietzsche's premise, i.e. there is no god, therefore there are no
rules, therefore the truly superior man will make his own rules. And you
mentioned rape, Mr. Washington. Well, Nietzche's views of women were so
negative, as to make him a misogynist. He felt women were weak vessels, designed
by nature to serve men. So maybe he would specifically agree about the issue of
rape that you mentioned."

Joshua had been leaning forward, waiting for her answer. He sat back,
taking a deep breath as he did so. His mind wandered the rest of the session.
