							Prologue

There were two small stories buries deep in Section One of the Los Angeles
Times:

					SCHOOL TEACHER STILL MISSING

Jane Davenport, a Mission Hills Secondary school teacher is still missing, more
than two years after she disappeared while on vacation in Belize.  Miss
Davenport, an attractive brunette, was last seen when she rented a small car in
Belize City and drove off to seek a private beach.  Authorities in Belize
conducted a thorough search after finding her abandoned automobile but were
unable to determine her whereabouts.

Miss Davenport has no known relatives in this area.

					DRUG LORD UNACCOUNTED FOR

Joaqu¡n Morales, the notorious drug smuggler, has not been seen for several
months.  The Drug Enforcement Agency, who has been after him for years, suspects
he has moved his operation to South America but have no information as to his
location.  Meanwhile, the supply of drugs infiltrating through his normal
channels has not diminished.
